Stages of Treatment

Treatment guidelines break therapy into three different stages. They are:

Stage 1: Getting rid of your symptoms
The first goal is to get your symptoms to go away. During this stage, your healthcare provider may prescribe a medicine and might recommend pyschotherapy.

Stage 2: Keeping your symptoms from coming back
This stage is about staying on your medicine and/or continuing psychotherapy even after you feel better, so your symptoms don't come back.

Stage 3: Coming up with a long-term plan
The goal is to prevent another episode (recurrence) of your condition. Your healthcare provider may want you to continue your treatment.
